PURPOSE:

The purpose of this seminar is to provide participants with an opportunity to explore multiple facets of the life and career of Elvis Presley.

DESCRIPTION:

Elvis Presley is a cultural icon, a musician, and a performer who served as a transition from black rhythm and blues, gospel, and country music into a new form of popular music: rock and roll.

ROLE OF PARTICIPANTS: Participants will select a topic from a list provided by the moderator and prepare a half-hour to forty-five-minute presentation. The presentation may include musical, video, and photo examples to enhance the presentation.

There are numerous monographs and articles on Elvis, including Peter Guralnick’s two-volume biography: Last Train to Memphis and Careless Love.
