Navigating the FCLIR Website

If you have visited our web site in the last week, you may have found yourself in an unfamiliar place. The URL of our new site is fclir.org, but if you typed “5clir.org” into the address bar of your browser, you were automatically redirected to the new site.

The home page

The home page is largely aimed at the general public. However, there are a few items that will be useful even to people who are already familiar with FCLIR. For example, near the bottom of the page you will find a two-part panel that you will want to check regularly for the latest news and announcements and for upcoming events. And in the panel just above (the red panel) there is a link to the current seminar/workshop offerings.

Most members will probably find it more efficient to navigate the site from the top menu. This menu takes two forms.

  • In a browser window of sufficient width, it is a drop-down menu with seven submenus. Hover over any submenu name to see the options below. The top links are also clickable.

  • On a smaller device or in a smaller window, you will see a three-line “hamburger” icon in the top right-hand corner. Click on this to display the names of the seven submenus, and then click on any one of those to see the options below.

How do I register for seminars?

For right now (early December 2023), members want to find out about the Spring semester. Everything you need is on line. From the top menu, under “Programs”, go to “Registering for Seminars and Workshops”.

At the bottom of this registration page you will find links to the online catalog, the Spring 2024 seminar registration form, and a PDF version of the print catalog.

The online catalog may look a bit unfamiliar, but it contains a lot of information. There is one panel for each seminar or workshop with the basic information, ordered by time slot (Monday morning, Monday afternoon, …) When you click on “See details”, you can find everything that is in the catalog plus any handout that the moderators have provided.

So once you have browsed through the catalog and made a list of the seminars and workshops that you are interested in, ordered according to your preferences, you are ready to click on the registration form link and finish the process.

The lottery deadline is December 11. Registrations received by this date will be considered in the first round of seminars, which includes a lottery for allocating spaces in oversubscribed seminars. Of course you may register after that date, but some seminars will be unavailable.

One other thing to note: If you were a member in the fall of 2023, your membership is current through the spring 2024 semester. If not, you will need to complete the membership form. You can find a link to this form by clicking on “Membership” in the top menu.

Spring 2024 Preview

The Spring Preview was held on December 3, 2023, 2-4 p.m. Look for the recording (coming soon) on our YouTube page.

Final notes
