DESCRIPTION:

Someone once quipped that Thomas Hardy had the good fortune to be one of the finest novelists of the 19th century and one of the finest poets of the 20th century. We will read two of his many popular novels, Far from the Madding Crowd and The Mayor of Casterbridge, and study several of his poems. 

ROLE OF PARTICIPANTS: Participants will each lead short discussions on some portion of the assigned texts and participate in class discussions of the poems.
RESOURCES:

 Any unabridged editions of the novels may be used. Copies of poems will be provided by the moderator. 

ABOUT THE MODERATOR: I have conducted many seminars on literary subjects, most recently poetry.
