The Cambridge Dictionary defines miracles in two ways: as (1) an unusual or mysterious event that is thought to have been caused by a god because it does not follow usual laws of nature; or (2) a very lucky event that is surprising and unexpected. We will explore these, and perhaps other, ideas of miracles in this seminar. Some, among many kinds, may be: religious (e.g., the virgin birth); artistic (e.g., Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, written while he was deaf); medical (e.g., a cure without treatment); or societal (e.g., a practice of magic).
FCLIR members and their cohorts should be ideal participants in this seminar because they may have experienced several miracles over the course of their long and eventful lives.
At this point there is no required reading. Once the participants have chosen their topics, the moderator will be delighted to guide them to appropriate sources.
