PURPOSE:

To better understand and experience creativity.

DESCRIPTION:

This seminar will include readings on the psychology and practice of creativity, exercises to enhance our own creative abilities, and analysis of the lives and work of creative individuals for a greater appreciation of all creative endeavors, as well as inspiration for living our own lives in a creative and satisfying way.

ROLE OF PARTICIPANTS: The seminar will have three stages. First, participants will read from articles on creativity, handed out by the moderator. We will then develop a theory and practice of creative thinking, and participate in exercises to develop our own skills. Finally, each participant will select and prepare a short presentation about a creative individual in any field, and discuss how creativity is manifested in that person’s work and life, and any obstacles to creativity they overcame

ABOUT THE MODERATOR: As an educator, Susan Schroeder has come to understand that the most important skills we learn are how to think and act creatively. She wrote her master’s thesis on creativity in schools.
