Consequences of the 2024 Election

A U.S. President in a polarized country

Moderator: Barbara Hyams

Details

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the seminar is to provide a forum for discussing the consequences of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

DESCRIPTION:

Regardless of who won the 2024 U.S. presidential election, the results are bound to be controversial. In our highly polarized society, there will be sore losers but hopefully no violence. In the early months of 2025 new policies may be implemented, and the media will be full of opinions. This seminar will provide a civilized forum in which to try to understand the ongoing divisions among voters and discuss the consequences of the election in the present.

ROLE OF PARTICIPANTS: Each participant will select one magazine article on a topic such as peaceful transfer of power, immigration, or abortion to summarize and comment upon for the group. The tone of all discussions must be respectful as befits a democratic society.
RESOURCES:

None.
