Seminar: Dickens’ Our Mutual Friend
Serialized storytelling has never been more popular that it is today with the proliferation of mini-series available on multiple streaming platforms. Charles Dickens, who published all his novels in parts before releasing them in single volumes, has had a significant impact on the serial genre we know today. In this talk, I give a brief history of serial fiction and describe how Dickens’ themes and narrative strategies have become central to the serial form.
